My philosophy
Welcome to 6th grade math! I am excited to work with you and your student this year. Because I believe teaching is about more than content, your student will not only learn math, but will also learn important life skills, good decision making, and critical thinking. It is my hope that students will gain a deep understanding of the processes involved in mathematics through hands-on discovery.
My biggest goal this year is to create a classroom environment which fosters a true love of learning. Learning occurs when the learner is able to attach meaning to what is being learned; therefore, students will be trained not only in how to ask questions, but also how to discover the answer. When students ask the question, they gain purpose for learning. Understanding why a concept is important in the real-world is the first step in learning.
The first couple of days of the semester will be spent doing team building exercises so students will get to know each other and feel comfortable learning together. Please encourage your student to ask questions and take risks by getting involved in the learning process. I look forward to learning as much from your student as he/she will learn from me.
